Please note City Hall Annex hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-12:30PM and 1:30PM-5:00PM. We will close daily for lunch during 12:30PM-1:30PM. 

***ATTENTION***
Please be aware that the merchant service provider charges a 3% convenience fee when paying online through this service. The software company will also charge a $2.00 service fee per transaction to manage the online bill pay system.

PLEASE NOTE- The City of Bessemer City does not benefit or profit from these fees.

Services...

The City of Bessemer City provides water, sewer, natural gas, garbage and recycling collection services to its citizens. We strive to maintain accurate utility bills and to assist customers with their billing questions. Utility bills are mailed on or about the 25th of each month and are due by the 10th of the following month. A late fee in the amount of 10% of the outstanding balance will be assessed on all unpaid accounts after the 10th. Services are subject to disconnection after the 15th. 

To apply for new services, please visit City Hall. An application can be obtained at City Hall or downloaded online. An application can be submitted in advance by fax or email. An activation fee of $40 is required prior to new services being activated. Valid photo identification, your social security card and a signed lease agreement with the exact service address is required. Once the application has been made, the deposit amount will be determined based on credit.  Homeowners will have to submit proof of ownership. A signed or certified copy of the Deed of Trust or Settlement Statement is required.  Businesses will be charged a deposit and can contact customer service for the current deposit fee schedule.

Payment Options

• In Office: Cash, check, money orders or branded debit and credit card (VISA, MasterCard and Discover) are accepted in the office.
• After Hours Drop Box: A drop box is available outside City Hall Annex. Envelopes are provided. Please make sure your name, address and account number is included with your payment.
• AutoPay Through City: The City offers AutoPay from your checking account on or around the 10th of each month prior to late fees being assessed.  There are NO additional fees for this service. Contact us today to set this up.

For home owner gas customers, the City offers “Budget Billing” – an equalized payment plan which spreads the cost of natural gas equally over an eleven (11) month period with catch up on month twelve (12).
